Leon Shelton, 72, of Du Quoin, passed away at 2:40 A.M., Friday, February 18, 2005 at the Marshall Browning Hospital in Du Quoin.
Leon was an assembly line worker for twenty-two years working at General Motors in St. Louis.  He was of the Pentecostal faith.  He was a member of the Du Quoin VFW, Du Quoin American Legion, and UAW.  He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War.
He was born June 19, 1932 at Elkville, the son of Frealie and Jessie (Gossett) Shelton.
He married Violet Conner on June 26, 1954 at Murphysboro, and she survives.
He is survived by his wife of Du Quoin, one daughter - Connie Cobb and husband Donald of Du Quoin, one grandson - Tyler Lee Cobb of Du Quoin, three brothers - Wesley Shelton of Dowell, Vernon Shelton of Du Quoin, and Asahel Shelton of Chillicothe, Ill., one sister - Lavetta Walker of Herrin, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson - Alan Ray Edie, son-in-law - Thomas Edie and one brother - Lloyd Shelton.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 P.M., Sunday, February 20, 2005 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Jerry Whittington officiating.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 P.M., Saturday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
Interment will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery at Du Quoin.
Friends may make memorials to the American Cancer Society and will be accepted at the funeral home.
